  1. Sounds like you are only talking to men. It would be helpful for me if you used the word “Spouse” instead of “your wife” and “most of you guys.” Some of us are women running family businesses.

    • Point well taken, Stacy. I’ll try to remember that.

  2. I took time off by accident two years ago. I was driving to California to visit a son with plans to do office work at night but my computer failed. After three days without the computer I found a new life I really enjoyed. Been retired ever since!

    • Good for you, Ray! Sometimes it is the simplest things…

  3. I do two things when taking time off:
    1. Clean desk – I use the prep-time to rid my desk of all the little projects that have just sat in the pile for a while; and
    2. Leadership development – I tell myself that the time off is actually testing time for sub-ordinates and that I have to step away to see how they do.

    • Good call, John! I’m obsessive about clean desk, clean office, clean email box, etc. Clutter clutters my mind, and I cannot concentrate! Any other anal retentive tips out there from other viewers, I wonder???

  4. Sound counsel. There has been a significant amount of research lately on how technology is changing our lives and the inability to disconnect is just one of the issues.

    • i bet there has, Ford! Thanks.
