Six Leadership Lessons from Ted Lasso

Happy Valentine’s Day! Ted Lasso is an award winning, hugely successful streaming phenomenon. It chronicles the adventures of a retired American football coach who gets hired to manage an English Premier League soccer team (spoiler alert: he was totally set up to fail). In spite of his many trials and tribulations, Lasso’s dogged optimism, persistence, and sense of perspective allows him to (another spoiler alert) triumph in the end.

Please tune in this week as Wayne expands on a short post from Stan Halliday of Travelers and offers six timeless leadership lessons from Ted Lasso. Have you seen the series? What lessons did you take away? Please share with us in the comments.

We are down to the final few seats for the upcoming class of The Contractor Business Boot Camp. If you haven’t yet enrolled your high-potential NextGen leaders to this career development program, do it NOW! The class begins on Feb 22 in Dallas, TX. Please contact Charlotte at ckopp@familybusinessinstitute.com for more information.

  1. Wayne, excellent summary. Ted Lasso is becoming one of the quintesential programs on the impact of positive leadership. Appreciate how you summarized the 6 lessons! Especially the choice about happiness. Mindset is everything and, if you recall Winnie the Pooh, no one wanted to follow Eyore (the negative donkey)

    • I was just thinking about Eeyore today, Kent, in the context of a future vlog, but I was afraid no one would get the reference!

  2. I agree with you about Ted Lasso. I had heard about it so many times that I finally gave in and watched it. It is definitely on my top 10 list. The leadership lessons are real and relevant. Thanks for your summary.

    • Cool, Kari!

  3. Wayne, I really enjoyed the Ted Lasso series as well. There are so many quippy comments that are made throughout the series that it’s hard to capture them all.
You summarized these leadership lessons well. The one I’ve shared with our people the most is “Doing the right thing is never the wrong thing.” It’s all about integrity when working with customers, inspectors, and business partners. Thanks for sending this out!

    • You’re welcome, Chris. I’m glad there are some other Lasso fans out there!

    • Agree completely. Good phrase to lock in on..

    • Well played, Chris! Hope you’re prospering!

  4. From Drucker to Covey to Collins, now Lasso with a small dose of Epictetus – love it Wayne. Keep ’em coming.

    • Thanks, Jim.
