The Boys in the Boat

If you haven’t read this terrific book by Daniel J. Brown or seen the movie it spawned, you owe it to yourself to do so. What does a tale of college kids rowing a funny looking boat in college and eventually in the Olympics have to do with construction, you ask? Plenty! The story is all about forming and inspiring the best team and unleashing them to be much better and more significant than anyone could’ve hoped to be on one’s own!

  1. Unfortunately the movie couldn’t cover all the challenges Rantz had to overcome in his early life, especially his survival instincts and abandonment by his father and stepmother at 15 years old. The book also It made me thankful for my summer job in construction many years ago instead of having to rappel down a cliffside to jackhammer rock for dam construction. Great book, great movie and great example of how the team is always more important than the individual.
